What better place to begin the ultimate nature trip than in Phuket's world-recognized wildlife sanctuary? It sits in Thalang District, approximately 20 km from Phuket City, and spans over an area of 5,570 acres. Here, you can interact with different species of plants and animals in the wild. And you can even take a dip in the small yet very inviting waterfalls that flow inside the sanctuary, Ton Sai and Bang Pae.

In Phuket's version of a butterfly farm located only 3 km from Phuket City, the much-loved, colorful insects are not all that you'll see. In one trip, you can be in a garden of fluttering and nectar-sipping butterflies, and then be in the presence of scorpions, tarantulas, and Ecuadorian bird-eating spiders next. While you're at it, you can also visit the in-house silk museum.

It has been proven by many that mangroves are very important to earth's well-being. Not only do they provide a home for fish and marine invertebrates, they also protect shorelines from erosion. This is why in Phuket, they are taken very seriously. A 320-acre land-water intersection to the south of the fishing village of Ban Tha Chat Chai is covered with a rich mangrove forest. Here, you can paddle around and simply admire these natural heroes that fancy living on the edge.

If you are among those who are thrilled by chancing upon shells washed up on shores, then Phuket's Seashell Museum is the place for you. This Rawai Beach attraction carries about 2000 shell species from the waters surrounding Phuket. These include numerous tiger cowries and stout-spine murex. Other than these, you will also get to see a 140-carat golden pearl, the largest of its kind in the world.
